Summer Landscape

Industrial Arts Brewing 'Summer Landscape'

Industrial Arts’ ‘Summer Landscape’ meets the ideal terrain for my dog days.

Beaches are nice for an hour or two. After that, the trifecta of sand, sun and heat overwhelm my poor Eastern European blood. Give me rustling leaves, chattering chipmunks, shady glades, mossy patches, and an endless sea of trees any day of the week. Throw in some beers, something to sit on while reading a book, and I’m in heaven.

Bring on the Craft Beer!

Industrial Arts’ ‘Landscape’ series remains my favorite spin on seasonal beer releases. Using all NY State ingredients, they brew a suitable lager for each season. Not only is it a great way to showcase the quality of NY agriculture, but it also introduces classic styles to folks drawn to their taproom for modern offerings (*cough*Wrench*cough*). Nowadays, lagers have become synonymous with the yellow fizzy stuff pumped out by various macrobreweries, but they’re so much more. Any attempt to demonstrate lager’s historical diversity is a winner in my book.

Speaking of that yellow fizzy stuff though, this year’s ‘Summer Landscape’ is a classic American Adjunct Lager; the style made famous by Budweiser, Miller, Pabst, Schlitz and others. 6-row pilsner malt and yellow corn from Hudson Valley Malt (Germantown, NY) meet Glacier, Williamette and Mt. Hood hops from Pederson Farms (Seneca Castle), in this light, but full-flavored lager. Each sip is a combination of soft grains, pretzels, spices and lemon zest. Incredibly refreshing summer treat that makes you wonder how the big guys got it so wrong.

My mass is anything be reduced after that meal, bu My mass is anything be reduced after that meal, but Ology’s 3.75% Mild Ale was the perfect complement to a gut busting meal.

Only celebrating with the wife this year, so we decided to put a different spin on the classics. Chinese Sausage Stuffing, Five Spice Carrots, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and Honey and Soy Sauce Glazed Turkey. Hands-down best turkey I’ve made to date. Stuffing wasn’t half bad either.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Still searching for some quality pies for Friday n Still searching for some quality pies for Friday nights. Bright side? My favorite frozen pizza from @screaminsicilian and a NEIPA from Arkane Aleworks.

Part of @gbbottleshop blind Florida IPA tasting, Sunny Side blends Rakau, Strata and Citra hops. Bursting with ripe, tropical fruits and touches of grapefruit, this is the juiciest can I’ve popped in the tasting so far.
Lots of questions running through my mind the past Lots of questions running through my mind the past couple of days. Didn’t think one of them would be how to best Lion King a beer, but these are strange times we’re living in and you gotta roll with the punches.

Hidden Spring’s ‘Ezra the Lion’ keeps it simple: Hazy IPA with Citra. Sticky tropical fruits and a touch of orange. Solid brew from one of my new favorites.

To top it off, proceeds from Ezra (named for Ezra Matthews who fought, but lost a battle neuroblastoma cancer) benefit the Beat Childhood Cancer Foundation. Fuck cancer. And seriously fuck childhood cancer.
