Zero Gravity’s ‘Loral Lager’ and a Playlist of Covers
Go ahead. Have a craft beer under the sheets. This is a no judgement zone.
Getting out of bed is tough these days. With quality programming like “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the pinacle of escapist gaming, available in the coziest spot at home and craziness outside your walls, extended bed rest isn’t the worst thing right now (even if you’re one of the incredibly lucky ones who can work from home). My latest playlist pays homage to another type of cover that’ll help us get through the day.
50 of my favorite cover songs await! Ranging from faithful renditions to creative takes on classics, there’s a bit of everything. Personal highlights?
- Lemy from Motörhead toning down the gruffness just a touch for David Bowie’s iconic “Heroes”
- Europe’s drippingly ’80s “Final Countdown” getting the banjo treatment it’s always needed
- A progressive metal spin on a song about Dave Coulier
- Indie Folkers Lord Huron crushing one of Neil Young’s best
- Some white guys commiserating about life in the hood
Pop this playlist on shuffle and let it be the soundtrack for taking on the day with or without pants.
Bring on the Beer!
Now, I don’t normally have beer in bed. Although a recent Zoom session saw me making up for lost time. Much more of a shower beer type of person. Regardless of your preferred comfortable drinking location, Zero Gravity’s ‘Loral Lager’ is a pleasant spin on a classic European style. Florals, herbs and faint fruitiness from a Loral dry hopping perfectly fit delicate cracker malts, faint bitterness and dry finish. Another definite winner from these Vermonters.
