Hop Butcher's 'Wurlitzer' Hefeweizen as Playlist Inspiration
Hop Butcher’s “Wurlitzer” Hefeweizen meets DJ Uncle Nops.

Music plays constantly in our apartment.  At work, I’d be the anti-social guy who pops on comically large headphones to listen to music while I wrote (although sometimes music isn’t actually playing and I’m just doing some eavesdropping).  Listening to music I enjoy makes me happy, helps the time pass, and makes doing stuff I don’t want to do a whole lot more bearable (on the flipside, ask some of my co-workers how I respond to ska). This isn’t rocket science. This isn’t an earth shattering revelation.  And I know a lot of you are nodding your head in agreement right now.

This little Bose Speaker, one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received, gets its fair share of use every week as does my Spotify account. A lot of you are going to be spending more time at home and hopefully you’re choosing to make music part of the new normal.  I’ve always been a fan of playlists as opposed to a willy-nilly shuffle of everything I own, so in the coming weeks I’ll be compiling a weekly public playlist on Spotify. Some will be themed, others will just be stuff I’m digging.

I skew all eras of folk, rock and metal with a smattering of everything else thrown in for good measure.  I’m always open to listening to new stuff and having people tell me my taste in music sucks, so don’t be shy!

As for the beer, the great thing about hefeweizens is that they tend to hold up to a little bit of age.  Hop Butcher’s “Wurlitzer” has been sitting in my fridge for about 6 months at this point, but I’m still getting nice flavors of banana and clove.  The dry-hopping notes from Liberty and Sabro have definitely faded off by now, but when you have a solid base for a traditionally unhoppy style, it definitely doesn’t take away from the experience.  Some more fridge lurkers will be popping up in the next couple of weeks and if they’ve aged as gracefully as Wurlitzer, then I’m in for a treat.
